It's time again for 55 Fiction Friday!
Quick explanation: 55 fiction is a very, very short story of exactly 55 words. It needs to have a character, conflict and resolution.
The Wikipedia article on 55 Fiction is here and some great examples are here..
If you'd like to play along, I tell you how at the end of this post.
One of KyLydia's friends, Guinness74, has started playing with us! Here's his 55!
Jonas slumped silently in the kitchen chair; a glazed stare blurred the clock on the microwave. His nearly empty beer bottle dangled precariously from his fingers as he pondered the burning steak on the grill outside. Lyle Lovett sang about Ensenada in the background. Nothing mattered anymore, she was gone and he was alone.
(Sneaky, trying to put it in the comments section of a three week old 55!)
Go check out Lydia's blog for her very funny 55 , Sadness Television, this week!

MrWurdi's 55 for the week:
Untitled
I was sitting down, strapped to my seat. I was pulling and pushing, right then left - screaming as everything passed before me. I had been in tight places before but this was the tightest yet. I had to keep control or lose it all. I’m almost there…
Ah, yes, this air race is mine!
Here’s my 55 for the week
Rude Awakening
The warm cocoon of sleep cradled her. Suddenly, crushing pain and muffled cries interrupted her slumber.
“Give me the freaking drugs,” she heard, faintly. “I want my drugs NOW!”
The dark pressure gave way to blinding light and a rude fellow manhandling her delicate body before smacking her on the ass.
Happy Birthday, Baby Girl!
(Today is my daughter's birthday.)

The Hard Goodbye
Mrs Wurdi said to Mr Wurdi, “Dear I have to go”.
Mr Wurdi stood stoic, trying to stay strong.
Despite his best, he showed distress, his emotions they did show.
“It is a calling that I have; to perform some special duties”
Then off to Boston flew Mrs Wurdi.
To help save all the boobies.
Delicious Anticipation
She barely touches me. Not feeling her touch, but perhaps her breath as her lips glide over the hair on my skin. My body takes in a quick gasp of breath as she surprises me with the touch of her hand on my back. The delicious anticipation of the ensuing hours takes my breath away.
Thanks, SGT and Katia! I'm so glad you're playing. I'm going to start preparing my 55 post on Thursday. This waiting until the last minute thing isn't working.
That said, MrWurdi has provided his for the week. I've added it where I had the placeholder.
Keep 'em coming!
The laundry was folded and put away. The dust disappeared for at least a day.
The kitchen floor needed that shine. The window sill looked oh so fine.
The carpet was vacuumed - no more footprints. A belly button free from lint?
Suddenly she sat up with a scream – sorry Mom its only a dream.
Anytime. While I sometimes get ideas earlier in the week, I don't let myself write it until Friday morning for your post.
(which shows in posts like today where the poem rhythm just didn't happen as planned)
I love them all!
The poetry theme is awesome. I think I'd like to try themes at some point but I'm going to have to get a little more confident in my fifty-fiving before I do poetry or the like.
What do you all think of a weekly theme? Will it inspire or hinder? Maybe start out with something easy, like incorporating a simple, broad topic? Maybe color (specific or just using color), vehicles, animals, pets?
Thoughts?
I generally think of mine based on something that happened in the week. It might be harder with a theme, but I guess that's a challenge.
Maybe pick a word or short phrase as a title, and the 55s could be interpretations from it.
BTW, your work is great. I'm just the hack with barely any English skills let alone poetic.
With a limit of 55 words, I thought the attempt at poetry was fairly nice. I like the idea of a theme - and as you can tell - my theme would be cleaning NOT!! Thanks for letting me play along.
Yeah, it was really hard to try to rhyme and still end up with only 55 or less words.
I, normally, also write about something that happened during the week. I'd much appreciate a theme, since my biggest challenge is inspiration.
Cool. Okay, I'll post a theme by Tuesday and we'll see what happens.
